INJURED? ZINE - Subverso Magazines x Lyricalmyrical Books

Now all we have to do
to enter the realm of art
is take a car.

- Paul Virilio

This zine contains a series of photos of injury attorney billboards captured from a moving vehicle, during a single trip to Las Vegas in December of 2025. Targeting local drivers and visiting casino and hotel guests, they represent the prospect of wealth-through-injury, promised by a moneyed legal class who either beam down veneered smiles or glare with dour seriousness. Although just a specific snippet of the vast archive of such advertisements that loom over the arterial highways of "Sin City," this temporally-specific archive of towering Ballardian sentinels still captures the id of an increasingly erratic American Empire. Taking inspiration from Paul Virilio and Dimitri Karakostas, Injured? uses automotive photography to reframe billboards, in the words of John Kenneth Galbraith, "the worst and most nearly useless excrescence of industrial civilization," as their own form of art, evil and beautiful in equal measure.
